CBT and Neurodivergence

Everyone thinks and processes the world in their own unique way. I recongise and support the strengths and challenges that come with Neurodivergence. I have been diagnosed with both ADHD and Autism (AuDHD), which gives me a valuable lived in experience and insight into supporting Neurodivergent people. I was also diagnosed later in life, so I understand the impact that this can have on someone’s life.

When it comes to working with Neurodivergence as a CBT therapist there are differences depending on if we are working with ADHD or Autism.

ADHD

With ADHD we can use CBT to explore tools and techniques to help you to manage the things about ADHD that you are struggling with. For example this could be tools to help you when you are procrastinating.

Autism

We are not looking to treat Autism, instead we look at tools that can be adapted for things such as anxiety and depression. For example, this could be looking at thought challenging in a creative way, rather than sticking to traditional CBT techniques.

Just to say, please don’t think you have to have a formal diagnosis to get CBT support for Neurodivergence, no one knows you better than yourself.
